Being in Service
Being in service to others is one of the reasons we are here. Here's why.

Being in service is one of the reasons we're here. Another reason we're here is to enjoy our lives as human beings. Often we forget that as we get caught up in the existence of being a wife, husband, mother, father, child, brother, sister, friend, boss, employee, entrepreneur, coach, or whatever other role we have chosen in this life.
Being in service, or helping others, is a role we chose before we were born into these human bodies. Even pets are in service to others. Think about how many times your cat, dog, horse, or any other pet you were lucky enough to share a life with helped you out. Maybe you were sad, depressed, lonely or anxious and your pet's energy calmed or soothed you, or helped you heal. You may have also done that for a relative, friend or a person you've never met before. We are here to learn that it's okay to feel GOOD! When you don't feel good about yourself, when you ask, someone or something will come into your life to help lift you up. That's part of what being in service means. To help someone or something feel better!
Perhaps you had a time where you really needed encouragement and a total stranger showed up when you were out somewhere, and said some kind words to you. Those words may have been random, but I know for sure that Spirit planted that person right there at that time for you so you could feel better about your life. That was divine intervention from an earth angel. We have earth angels around us all the time. All you have to do is ask for help from the spiritual realm and someone visible or energetic will show you for you. You can say that angels are here with us to be in service to us too. We must remember that they are here to help us but they can only help us when we ask them for help.
I learned Reiki in 1997 when I was living in Bangkok, Thailand, and my personal life was a huge mess. I was ending a ten year marriage that no longer served myself or my husband at that time. We both wanted different things and we agreed it was time to let each other go. I felt like there was something hugely wrong with me at the most painful time in that marriage. I became really ill and was hospitalized for eight days. The doctors couldn't find anything wrong with me but they said that they'd keep me there until my body healed itself. It did, and the next year, before my husband and I parted ways, I met my Reiki Master when she came to the school for parent teacher conferences I was working at because I taught her daughter. I took my first two levels of Usui Reiki training with her. When I told her about the illness I'd had the year before all she said was, "Your life was out of balance." That was true! Learning Reiki at that time in my life was the best thing that happened to me. Using Reiki to help my emotional being heal was amazing. My Reiki Master was in service to help people learn to heal themselves and others and I passed it on!
I left the school in Bangkok and in my first year teaching in a new school in Brazil, I wasn't sick one day during my school year. My energy was a match for the climate in Brazil. I felt peaceful and happy as I moved forward in my life. At that time, I made sure that I took time to figure out what I wanted in life. I knew then that I was really happy being in service teaching visual arts in that school. I loved my international students and they shared a love for art like I had.
When I was a teacher in public and private schools, I was in service to children and education, teaching my students how to express themselves as artists, I loved that part of my life. My life drastically changed when I had my son. I left my full time job to be a mother because I loved my son so much. I didn't know that you could love someone that much! I know and understand that when we choose to parent, we are also in service to humanity, ensuring that when we release our children to the world, we will always be there to support them. Being a parent certainly isn't always easy but the rewards when you see your child become who they truly are is one of the greatest rewards you can have while existing as a human.
I know that by reading this blog post, you will think about what you are doing in your life. What do you feel you are meant to do? What makes you feel good about who you are? What special abilities do you have that you are meant to share with the world? You are not here by accident. You exist and you will always exist because you are energy! And energy never dies. Our physical bodies do expire at some point, but our energy leaves that body to create a different experience wherever we choose to go.
When you feel lost, alone, unhappy or just need to retreat, take action to make yourself feel better! Remember that you chose to be here. You are meant to do something for yourself and for others. When we participate in our lives, we make this place a better world!
Above all, remember that you are exactly who you are meant to be. When you want to change your life, change how you feel about yourself. Make sure you are kind to yourself first before giving to others. Loving yourself and love itself really is the way to change everything in your life. Make sure you reflect often so you understand what it is that you love to do, and what you would like to leave behind. I am always here to help you! It's what I do.
